The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department has recently received complaints about individuals soliciting at residents’ doors in the name of SVFD/Rescue.
Chairman of the Seymour Fire Department Ted Esch warns that the SVFD is not currently holding a solicitation campaign.
“All we can say is that we are not currently conducting a door-to-door campaign, that is not to say we wouldn’t in the future, but we aren’t now and haven’t for 10 or more years,” Esch said.
The original complaint was called into the Knox County Sheriff’s Department and then transferred to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department, which then alerted the SVFD.
“A woman called Knox County querying whether the person who came to her door was actually soliciting funds in the name of the SVFD,” Esch said. “There could be one or two people knocking on doors trying to solicit, there could also be people conducting solicitation campaigns for other organizations and just using our names.
“It is our understanding at this time that it is just one person going door-to-door.”
Esch added that this is not the first time this has happened to the SVFD. About two years ago another unauthorized campaign took place.
Any person currently soliciting funds in the name of the SVFD is doing so without authorization by the department.
Residents who encounter this solicitor should alert the SVFD business line at (865) 573-7475 to give the name of the person soliciting and the location of the activity.
