For generations, the art of preserving a region’s or family’s history and tales has been accomplished by passing stories from person to person through oral stories.  By re-creating events with words,  the stories become a part of the lore of that family or region.
Two free Tellabration! storytelling events will take place at the Blount County Public Library during the month of November, a time when professional storytellers offer their services for free.  Tellabration! is a worldwide celebration of storytelling which creates a network of storytelling enthusiasts bonded together in spirit at the same time of year each year.
Faye Wooden, one of East Tennessee’s premiere storytellers, will entertain all ages on Nov. 4, at 7 p.m., by drawing on her life experiences. Wooden touches the fabric of people’s lives with her hypnotic voice, wide range of tales, and haunting tunes.
Tellabration! 2010, the second storytelling event at the library, will consist of stories geared especially for elementary-aged children and their parents.   This story time will delight listeners on Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. in the Reading Pond of the Children’s Library at Blount County Public Library.
Professional storytellers Janice Brooks-Headrick, Lovella Richardson, and Millie Sieber will share tales in one of the local observations of a world-wide celebration of storytelling.
These three storytellers are active in Smoky Mountain Storytellers Association, with its website, www.smokymountaintellers.org.
Free and open to the public, these programs are at the Blount County Public Library, located at 508 N. Cusick Street, Maryville.
