OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Lady Vol rowing team recorded a third place finish in the Women’s Collegiate Novice 8+ event at the 2010 Secret City Head Race, held on Melton Hill Lake Saturday afternoon.
Tennessee’s “B” boat crossed the finish line in 23:52.04.
This marks the second consecutive year that the Big Orange has posted a top-three finish at the Secret City Head Race.
Murray State won the race with a time of 23:23.15. LSU finished runner-up in 23:39.52. Vanderbilt took fourth place (24:10.22) while the University of Charleston was fifth. Murray State’s “B” boat and LSU’s “B” finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Rounding out the finishers were UT Chattanooga, Vanderbilt “B” and Brenau University.
UT’s “A” boat was scratched from the competition.
The novice team is made up of rowers in their first years of collegiate competition.
The rowing team will return to action next weekend in the 30th annual Head of the Hooch regatta from Nov. 6 and 7 on the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, Tenn. That regatta will be UT’s final one of the fall season.
