Volunteers at Seymour Heights Christian Church recently pitched in to help two families in need.
On Oct. 17 the church held a Sunday Tailgate in its parking lot, where church members and other volunteers began building two houses for Habitat for Humanity.
The two houses are for Habitat for Humanity in Knoxville and Jefferson County.
Nearly 300 volunteers rolled up their sleeves and began work by building the walls of the soon to be constructed houses.
This was the second time church members have participated in the construction of houses for Habitat for Humanity, but last weekend was the first time they built components of two different houses at once.
“We had a fantastic turn out, tons and tons of people that came to build these houses,” said Barb McLoughin, secretary at Seymour Heights. “It was just a great project all around.
“We had kids out there as young at five banging a hammer and everybody took part in it.”
The walls that were built were transported to storage until the houses are constructed.
While the volunteers built the walls of the houses, they are not sure if they will able to participate in the actual construction.
“The houses will be constructed, we don’t have a date yet, but they do have land purchased,” said McLoughin. “We expect the houses will be constructed very soon.”
