BOSTON – The University of Tennessee Lady Vol rowing team finished 10th in a 30-boat field in the Championship 8+ race on Sunday afternoon at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta, held on the Charles River.
Tennessee crossed the finish line in a time of 16:23.634, just behind 2009 NCAA Champions Stanford, who took ninth in 16:22.00.
Princeton won the race in 15:48.314, while defending NCAA Champions Virginia came in second. Rounding out the top ten were Brown, Yale, Northeastern, Vesper Boat Club, Washington, a second Virginia Shell, Stanford and Tennessee.
This is the eighth Top-15 finish for the Lady Vols at this regatta. In 2007, the Orange and White produced its best Championship 8+ result in program history at the Head of the Charles, taking fifth.
The varsity squad will be off next week and will return to action Nov. 6 at the Head of the Hooch Regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn. The novice rowers will take to the water next weekend for their first fall competition on Oct. 30 at the Secret City Head Race in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
