A rezoning request, which had some W. Union Valley residents concerned, was taken off the Sevier County Commission agenda just before the meeting Monday night.
The request to remove the item from the agenda was made by the property’s owner, Charles McNeely, according Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters.
The property listed in the rezoning request that was submitted to the Sevier County Planning Commission is located at 1014 W. Union Valley Road in Seymour and the request was to rezone it from R-1 (Rural Residential) to C-2 (General Commercial District).
It was the commercial zoning that had many of the residents in the area concerned, to the point that several of them signed petitions against the rezoning.
Back on Sept. 14 the Sevier County Planning Commission voted against the request, but it would have been up to the County Commission give the final word on the subject.
Commissioners did not have a chance to vote on the item however, because of its removal upon the request of McNeely.
About 25 residents of the W. Union Valley area who were not aware of the agenda change came out in support of the planning commission’s decision.
Why the item was voluntarily pulled by the property owner was not disclosed as of press time. Check back with the Seymour Herald for further updates to this story.
