ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Center for Individual Freedom (“CFIF”) today commends Congressman Jimmy Duncan of Tennessee’s 2nd congressional district for scoring a perfect five out of five on CFIF’s 2010 Candidate Issues Survey.
The CFIF survey – which was sent to all federal Congressional and Senate candidates, as well as all gubernatorial candidates – gauges candidates’ positions on five key issue areas that CFIF believes are foremost on voters’ minds: proposed tax increases, national debt and deficit spending, health care reform, proposed changes to union elections and Internet regulation. CFIF’s aim in conducting the survey is to educate voters on candidates’ positions leading up to the 2010 midterm elections, and beyond.
CFIF thanks Congressman Duncan for committing to the following issue positions:
· Congressman Duncan opposes President Obama’s plan to raise income taxes on so-called “high income earners,” individuals earning more than $200,000 per year and families earning more than $250,000. He also opposes President Obama’s plan to increase the current 15% tax rate on dividends to as high as 39.6%.
· In order to control deficit spending, Congressman Duncan supports a Constitutional Amendment requiring Congress to balance the federal budget annually and that increases the Congressional vote requirement to raise the debt ceiling or increase taxes to 60 percent of both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate.
· Congressman Duncan supports repealing all or parts of President Obama’s new health care reform law.
· Congressman Duncan opposes proposed changes to union elections through the “Employee Free Choice Act,” otherwise known as “card check.”
· Congressman Duncan opposes federal regulations that would impose so-called “Net Neutrality” on the Internet, because such regulations would discourage future investment in broadband expansion and innovation, prohibit Internet traffic management and undermine service quality.
“CFIF commends Congressman Jimmy Duncan for his stated commitment to the founding principles of lower taxes, less government and individual freedom,” said CFIF president Jeffrey Mazzella. “At a time when the U.S. economy is struggling to recover and with unemployment stuck at dangerously high levels, Congressman Duncan’s responses to CFIF’s survey demonstrate that he favors job-creating, market-based solutions, rather than more government, to solve the most pressing issues facing the nation today.”
CFIF’s survey results will be published on an ongoing basis and highlighted on its website, www.cfif.org.
