A two vehicle traffic accident on Chapman Friday afternoon resulted in one of the drivers being sent to hospital.
The accident, which occurred at about 3 p.m., involved a Ford pickup truck driven by 32-year-old man and a Pontiac Sunfire driven by a 17-year-old girl.
Officials said the Sunfire pulled out into traffic on Chapman, causing the truck’s driver to swerve to avoid hitting the car. When the man did this the truck flipped onto its driver’s-side.
“A little black car pulled out from Walgreens and a green Ford truck was headed toward Knoxville on Chapman,” said Sylvia Moore, a witness to the accident. “When the black car pulled out, the truck, in order to avoid hitting it, cut real deep, and when he did, he flipped (the truck).”
The driver of the truck was transported to the hospital due to an arm injury.
The 17-year-old driver was found at fault for the accident.
The driver of the truck was driving on a suspended license due to an unpaid ticket in 2006 and was also driving without any auto insurance.
Officials added that the accident caused the typical traffic scenario, causing traffic to back up for some distance before the accident was cleared from the road.
