The Sevier County Public Library System state-sponsored “Make A Splash: Read” summer reading program ended earlier this month after months of activities.
The program offered several special programs and a substantial amount of reading.
This year the children of Sevier County were treated to eighteen exciting programs, six each at the Seymour Branch Library, King Family Library and Kodak Branch Library to promote reading during the summer months.
Over the summer over 2,500 children, parents and caregivers joined in programs featuring live animals, pirates, local television meteorologists, and a live mermaid among other programs.
From preschool through sixth grade, 460 children signed up to participate in the Summer Reading Program.
These children read, or were read to, an amazing number of books over the seven-week period – a total of 20,405 books.
Ninety-eight teens in grades 7 through 12 read for a total of 2,531 hours this summer. Eighty adults also participated in the adult program.
