The Lady Eagles volleyball team opened their 2010 season in the KIL tournament at Knox Catholic on Monday evening.
After the disappointing senior-less 2009 season the team hopes to rebound with a   competitive squad this fall.
The Lady Eagles showed in their first match that they certainly plan to be a better team with a close victory over a talented Hardin Valley team.
After losing to Knox Catholic in their second match, the Lady Eagles knuckled down and beat Central in their final match.
Coach Ed Irvin is cautiously optimistic that his 2010 team will surpass last year’s.
"Most of these girls received plenty of playing time last season", said Irvin. "There are some making the same mistakes, some that have improved, and some in the middle.
“I've always treated this as a "performance based" deal. I don't see classes, just players vying for positions."
There are four seniors on the team: Andrea Markowitz, Ashley McCarter, Kayla Messel, and Alexis Staley.
"There are certainly some underclassmen that we are depending upon. They will earn their press time", Irvin said.
