The warning sign equipped with flashing lights for the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department has been noticeably missing.
The sign was located on Ford Hill across from SVFD Station One on Chapman Hwy. to warn drivers of emergency vehicles that were being deployed to a call.
It is unclear whether or not the sign was stolen, or hit during some kind of accident, but one thing is for certain, residents are concerned.
Several residents have voiced their concerns over the missing sign and what they feel is a lack of safety.
These residents’ concern is both for their own safety, as well as for the safety of the volunteers who serve the community.
They feel it is unsafe for fire engines, trucks, and other emergency vehicles to turn out of Station One into congested Chapman Hwy. traffic to respond to emergency calls.
It is not as if the volunteers aren’t cautious, but many residents would like the peace of mind that a flashing warning light, or other type of warning system, would provide.
Another possible safety measure that has been discussed is the construction of a center turn lane.
There has been discussion for several years about putting a center turn lane in that specific area, but to no avail.
Whether a turn lane, a flashing warning sign, or another type of warning system, residents feel they, as well as the volunteers who serve Seymour, could use some extra precautionary measures.
