There are two days left of early voting in Sevier County for the Aug. 5 election, and the numbers are already better than for the primaries held in May.
Sevier County has two early voting locations, the Seymour Branch of the Sevier County Public Library and the Voting Machine Warehouse in Sevierville.
Current early voting has been taking place on specific days since July 16 at the warehouse and since July 22 at the library.
The early voter tally as of Tuesday morning  was 2,736, an number Sevier County Election Officials say is much higher than the early voting held a few months ago.
Officials added that this number is much better than they expected considering the low voter turnout in May.
The purpose of early voting is to give residents a chance to come out and vote early so they don’t have to wait in long lines on Election Day.
The Sevier County Election Commission prints off an application for early voters to sign and they will then cast their vote on machines that are designated for early voters. The machines are the same type that will be used on Election Day.
July 30 and 31 are the last two days of early voting. At the Seymour Library voting will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. At the Voting Machine Warehouse it will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
For those planning to vote at the library, Seymour Library Branch Manager Tony Krug said that early voters are encouraged to use the library’s side door to avoid library traffic and activity.
“During the peak times the goal really is to keep people from standing in long lines and to minimize wait time,” he said. “Our doors are always open though, and we would be more than happy to have people utilize the library while they are there to vote.”
Anyone who is registered to vote in Sevier County can utilize either early voting location.
