The City of Knoxville announced a call for entries for the Arts District Banner Competition.
The winning design will be printed on 26 banners to be hung from street poles in the Arts District (primarily along the 100 and 200 Blocks of Gay Street).
Banners will be installed prior to the Arts District Grand Celebration from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 10. Banners will be temporarily removed for Christmas in the City decorations (November and December) and reinstalled in early 2011 to hang indefinitely.
The deadline for digital submissions to be received is Aug. 20.
Artists may submit up to three designs for the Arts District banners.  All designs must be original.  Exact printed size of pole banners will be 24” w x 72” h.  Submissions should include a solid color background and design using up to four colors.
Submissions should be drawn to scale at max size of 3” w x 9” h (or 900×2700 pixels). Submissions should include artist’s signature on the design.
Designs will be juried by the City of Knoxville’s Public Art Committee. The call for entries is open to all artists.  No entry fee.  Download a prospectus and application at www.knoxalliance.com (under Artist Calls & Press Releases), or contact Suzanne Cada, Arts & Culture Alliance, (865) 523-7543, sc@knoxalliance.com.
