The Blount County Public Library recently announced the winners of the Cardboard Boat Race, held at John Sevier Swimming Pool earlier this month.
Race co-sponsors were Blount County Public Library and Blount County Parks and Recreation.
The Friends of the Blount County Library volunteers helped conduct the race alongside library staff members.
Phil Baker, past president of the Friends of the Library, served as master of ceremonies for the race.
Judges were some of the members of the boards of the library, Bob Austin (Board of Trustees), Wendy Pitts Reeves and Michelle Hankes (Fort Loudoun Regional Library Board), Larry Moore and Bob Ramger (Friends of the Library Board).
Cardboard Boat Race Trophy Winners were, Tori Simmons in Boat #13, in the “Speedy Gonzales” (Fastest Vessel) category, Jennifer and Jackson Whitehead in Shark Tales, Boat # 5, for the Titanic Award (Most Spectacular Sinking), Doug and Madison Dockery in the Titanic, Boat #8, for the Ship-Shape Award (Most Creative Design and Best Use of Cardboard), Cabrein Bell and Anthony Richardson in Boat #10 for the Team Spirit Award (Most Spirit & Best Organized Team), and Mary and Will Miller in Fire Floater, Boat #6, for the Cardboard Queen Award (Prettiest Boat).
The judges also announced a special award, the Captain Smith Award, to Tim Richardson in the Banana Boat for abandoning crew (his daughter, Charlotte Richardson) but staying with the sinking ship.
