The Great Smokies Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is proud to announce that former Chapter Regent, Linda B. Jones, was sworn in July 11as Tennessee Society DAR State (TSDAR) Regent.
     Jones took her oath of office during the 119th Continental Congress of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). The ceremony took place at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. Jones’ term of office will be from 2010 to 2013.
     “It is a great honor to serve the Tennessee State Society as State Regent,” said Jones. “My state theme is: ‘Honor to the Past, Service to the Present and Commitment to the Future.’ All three encompass our National theme of God, Home, and Country.
     “My emblem is the American Eagle and my Bible verse is: ‘Because you are my help, I sing beneath the shadow of your wings’— Psalm 65:7.”
     Jones was nominated for State Regent by past State Regent Martha Summers Willis at the TSDAR State Convention held May 1, 2010, in Knoxville.
     Among the objectives, Jones will work to complete are the following projects: The Cherokee Indian Brainerd Mission Project, Veterans Hospital Memphis Facility, Fisher House, “Warm Fuzzies” for vets (lap robes, five per chapter), miscellaneous veteran needs, Veteran History Project—“Rosie the Riveter,” American Eagle Foundation “Build a Nest,” DAR Schools: Tamassee, Crossnore, Hindman, KDS, and historic preservation of DAR Chapter records by transferring all to disk.
      Jones has served in many Tennessee State capacities. She was Registrar for the TSDAR from 2001 to 2004, she served as the Great Smokies Chapter DAR Regent 1997 to 1999, she was editor of the DAR Newsletter, she served as the Appalachian District Secretary, she served on the NSDAR Tamassee Advisory Board, and she has served as the TSDAR Second Vice Regent.   
     From 2007 until she took office as TSDAR State Regent, she served as the TSDAR First Vice Regent for the 2007–2010 term.
     This is an exceptionally great honor for the Great Smokies Chapter, whose members sincerely appreciate all the hard work she has done and continues to do for the Chapter and all the Tennessee Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
     Jones is the wife of Loy W. Jones who is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
     The Tennessee State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution is comprised of five districts: Chickasaw, Cumberland, Sequoyah, Cherokee, and Appalachian. The Great Smokies Chapter is located in the Cherokee District. The total membership for the State is more than 5,000.
