During July 14 through 17, more than 10,000 quilting enthusiasts will return to Knoxville for the 2010 American Quilter’s Society (AQS) Quilt Show and Contest at the Knoxville Convention Center (KCC).
More than 400 quilts will be on exhibit at the show, many of which are semifinalists in an AQS contest, which includes five categories: Quilter’s Choice, On the Wall, Made by Machine, The Ultimate Guild Challenge, and a special category, Galaxy of Stars.
More than $42,000 will be awarded to the winners; the Best of Show winner will receive $10,000. Special awards will also be given for hand workmanship, machine workmanship, longarm workmanship and the best wall quilt, with first, second and third places in each category.
This year’s special events include the Step Back in Time Progressive Dinner with a tour of historic Knoxville homes, An Evening with Alex Anderson (host of HGTV’s “Simply Quilts”), Down on the Farm with renowned quilter Eleanor Burns, and a brunch with professional quilt maker and author Gwen Marston.
Workshops and lectures offering various quiltmaking techniques will be taught by national quilting instructors in the AQS School of Quiltmaking.
Event hours are July 14 through 16, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and July 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with special events at various times through-out the four-day conference. Admission for AQS members is $8 per day or $15 for a multi-day pass and admission for non-members is $10 per day or $30 for a multi-day pass.
Parking will be available at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum where the AQS Express Shuttle will be available for attendees to ride and be dropped off at the front door of the KCC. Fares are $1 per ride or $5 for an event pass.
