The children who attended this week’s story hour at the Seymour Branch Library were in for an extra special treat.
In addition to hearing a story read by Library Assistant Spence Perry, Kevin Hill with the Knoxville Zoomobile was on hand with several artifacts and animals.
Perry read an animal themed story to the excited crowd of children before Hill stepped in to begin his presentation.
Hill displayed a live tarantella, a black bear skull, an elephant tusk, Madagascar hissing cockroaches and a rhino horn to the reading room that was packed with children.
He explained the background and gave a bit of information about every item and animal to the children while they were able to touch artifacts such as the rhino horn and elephant tusk.
The children’s story hour, which is held at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. every Monday at the library, is currently in conjunction with the Sevier County Library System’s “Make a Splash-Read” 2010 reading program.
The program is suggested for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.
Through the program children can hear new stories, create crafts, play games and take part in several special programs throughout the summer.
For more information about the SCPLS summer reading program call the Seymour Library at (865) 573-0728.
