
“Celebrate Books” is the theme the Sevier County Public Library System (SCPLS) uses to host an annual art and writing contest to design baseball trading cards.
The SCPLS collaborated with the primary, elementary and middle schools in Sevier County to promote the 2010 Children’s Book Week literacy event with its 7th Annual Book Week Contest featuring the student’s favorite children’s book or character in a children’s book.
Sevier County students in grades pre-K through eighth designed baseball cards for the 2010 event. The baseball card contest ended mid-March and winners from the 2,230 entries were chosen to be presented in conjunction with Children’s Book Week 2010.
Each student who entered the contest will receive a certificate of appreciation and the winning entries (first, second and third) will receive 30 copies of their professionally-printed baseball card in addition to a certificate.
The winning entries for grades Pre-K through fourth grade are: First Place: Nakota Teachout, second grade, Catlettsburg Elementary; Second Place: Jesse Lowe, fourth grade, Caton’s Chapel Elementary; Third Place: Autumn Hicks, second grade, Sevierville Primary.
Honorable Mention Winners for Pre-K – 4th grade include Caitlin Armbrister, first grade (Seymour Primary); Kelsey Christensen, fourth grade (Pi Beta Phi); Kristiana, second grade (Seymour Primary), Cassandra Kelly, fourth grade (Sevierville Intermediate); McKayla Miller, third grade (Sevierville Intermediate); McKenzie, 2nd Grade (Northview Elementary), Kendra Parton, fourth grade (Wearwood Elementary), Avery Williams, first grade (Seymour Primary), Kegan W., fourth grade (Seymour Community Christian Academy), and Grace Wright, fourth grade, (Wearwood Elementary).
The winning entries for grades fifth through eighth are: First Place: Shaelyn Baggett, eighth grade, Northview Middle; Second Place: Leah Rollins, seventh grade, The King’s Academy; Third Place: Casey Rose, sixth grade, Catlettsburg Elementary.
Honorable Mention Winners for fifth through eighth grade include Lane Hinton, sixth grade (Pigeon Forge Middle); Lauren King, fifth grade (Wearwood Elementary); Joseph Kritikson, eighth grade (Catlettsburg Elementary); Shannon Lewis, eighth grade (Caton’s Chapel Elementary), Kelly Moore, seventh grade (Sevierville Middle),Kaytlin Rogers, sixth grade (Seymour Middle), Natalie “Nat” Sellers, seventh (Seymour Middle),Deborah Videla, seventh grade (Catlettsburg Elementary), Mackenzie Dean, fifth grade (Pi Beta Phi), and Haley Graves, fifth grade (Seymour Intermediate).
The Sevier County Public Library System would like to thank all of the principals, teachers and media specialists in Sevier County who were instrumental in promoting this event with enthusiasm and excitement in their schools.
