Seymour Intermediate was one of 27 elementary and middle schools in Tennessee to be awarded with $1,000 for earning the grocer’s “Earning Plus Learning” rewards.
The annual rewards program invited schools and graduating high school seniors to creatively demonstrate how they stay active mentally, physically and within their communities.
Elementary and middle schools winning $1,000 awards came from several cities throughout Tennessee, including Seymour, Sevierville, Crab Orchard, Crossville, Harriman, Maryville, Knoxville, and Oak Ridge.
“Earning Plus Learning” entries took the form of scrapbooks, photos, videos, essays, newspaper clippings and more.
All entries were reviewed by a panel of judges comprised of local and regional community leaders and the Kroger Community Involvement Team.
“The Earning Plus Learning program has given millions of dollars to schools and students in the Atlanta Division throughout the years,” said Glynn Jenkins, director of communications for Kroger’s Atlanta Division. “Our teachers, principals, staff and students have a history of continued excellence, and they deserve a reward for all of their hard work.”
Other Sevier County elementary school winners are Boyds Creek Elementary in Sevierville, Sevierville Primary, and Wearwood Elementary in Sevierville.
“Kroger is committed to education,” said Jenkins. “It is no secret that the education system and families have been negatively affected by the economy, and we hope these funds can at least fill some gaps.
“These students and schools have really earned these rewards.”
