Joe Karl, Candidate for Sixth District County Commission Seat A, believes there are some major issues that need to be addressed in the Seymour Community.
These issues include fixing local trash centers, establishing a community center in Seymour, implementing turn lanes, and reducing school traffic.
“For all the years I’ve been here the residents have been fighting the same problems, with the same people, and getting the same results, which is nothing,” Karl said.
One of the major issues Karl would address if elected is fixing the inconvenient, and often closed local trash dump centers.
“I’ve been to the dump many times with a load of smelly garbage and arrived only to find it was closed because it was ‘full’,” Karl said. “The grime and debris on the ground around the dumpsters is unacceptable.
“People are tired of hauling stinking garbage back and forth from their homes.”
He believes this issue has gone unaddressed for far too long and has to change now.
A second major project Karl would like to see established in Seymour is an Indoor/Outdoor Community Center.
“Our families and children need and deserve a convenient local community center here in Seymour, instead of having to drive to Sevierville or Pigeon Forge,” he said. “Why can all the other communities have them and we have nothing?”
Karl added that 100% grant money is available for this type of project that would not cost Seymour residents anything.
Another major issue Karl would like to tackle is to alleviate heavy “unbearable” traffic in the area, especially around the schools.
He believes a solution to this would be to implement turn lanes in more areas, and to possibly establish a walking bridge over Boyd’s Creek so children and parents could safely cross to meet each other without having to drive back and forth between schools.
“Some progress has been made with establishing turn lanes and lessening traffic, but it is still not enough,” Karl said. “We need to finish the job now.
“Our family’s lives depend on it and we can’t wait.”
He added that many projects can be funded and established through grant money, so there is no excuse to not accomplish these goals now.
“We are already over-taxed but these are simple solutions that won’t cost the residents anything,” he said, “because 100 percent grants are available to communities like Seymour.
“Why must we keep asking for the same things year after year? Our community continues to grow and we fall farther behind the eight ball.
“It’s time to get the input, make decisions, set our goals, fix the date of completion and put the pedal to the metal.
“I respectfully request your vote as your Sevier County Commissioner for the Sixth District, Seat A.”
