The meeting between two baseball powerhouses lived up to all expectations.  Seymour and Gibbs are two schools rich in baseball tradition.  This time there were no exceptions as Seymour defeated the Gibbs Eagles 3-1.
Being a non conference game, Seymour and Gibbs were basically playing for bragging rights in a game of rich history.
Seymour is currently (18-6) while Gibbs is (17-7).
Logan Sawyer (7-0) started on the mound for the Seymour Eagles and took home the win.  The right hander pitched a complete game, giving up only 3 hits and striking out nine hitters.
Bats were rather cool for Seymour most of the evening except for Corbin Weaver who blasted an opposite field homerun in the first inning.
In a game like this the solo seemed to draw a line in the sand.  But the Eagles weren’t done.  Chris McCarter walked, and then Logan Jenkins drove him in on a fielder’s choice.  That made the score 2-0.
Gibbs put 2 runners on in the fifth but the Eagles came out of it with good pitching by Logan Sawyer.
In the bottom of the fifth, Seymour scored again as Brandon Timmerman fielder’s choice drove in another  run making the score 3-0.
Gibbs got on the scoreboard in the sixth.  Starting with a leadoff walk, then a double by Austin Turner advancing the runner to third base the visiting Eagles hit a sacrifice fly to score their only run of the game. As Turner approached third base Seymour’s Brandon Timmerman threw a frozen rope to third picking off Turner for the second out.  The Eagles went on to end the inning still leading 3-1.  Gibbs added a one out single in the seventh but Sawyer struck out the last two hitters to end the inning and the game.
Next up for Seymour will be a big IMAC game at Sevier County.
