A Café in Seymour has begun a collection donations to be sent to victims of the Haiti earthquake. The collection drive effort by the Cafe will continue from April 23 until May 15.
“There is always a time in your life when you need a little help,” said Debi Stovall, co-owner with Norbert Stovall of Big Mama’s Karaoke Café. “For the mostly-poor people of Haiti who are struggling to recover from this disaster, that time is now. What may seem a relatively small act of kindness on your part today can make a huge difference to those facing the challenges wrought by that earthquake.”
THe Café is asking the Seymour and south Knoxville community to help with their “Hands Helping Hands for Haiti” drive, by taking time to collect and drop off the desperately-needed supplies.
Donations can be dropped off at the Café at 10605 Chapman Highway in Seymour, immediately adjacent to the Seymour Post Office, from Tuesday through Saturday until May 15.
Participants and those wishing to help can also drop off one dollar to go toward purchasing needed items. For each donation made, the Café will provide the participant with a complimentary Chartbuster Karaoke compact disc, and place the participant’s name on a chain of “hands” on display at the Café in Seymour.
Donations of school supplies and toiletries will be placed in backpacks by students participating in 2010 Global Destination Imagination at Knoxville’s World’s Fair Park in May. The talented young people from all over the world who are competing in the annual event will join hands to complete this worthwhile project as part of the intense 2010 Global Destination Imagination schedule.
The Café will also pick up donations for the project, by request. To schedule a pick up or for more information call (865) 609-0208.
