The Seymour Eagles baseball team completed a regular season sweep over the Jefferson County Patriots with a 4-3 win at home at Don Doyle field.
The outcome wasn’t decided until the bottom of the seventh (the last inning) in a nail biter. The score was tied 3-3 when Logan Jenkins nailed a single over second base to score the game winning run.
The inning started with Corbin Weaver getting to first on a walk. Weaver was replaced with a pinch runner who made it to second on an infield basehit . Seymour had called the hit and run which allowed the short hit to be enough.
Zack Cook then laid down a sacrifice bunt which advanced the runners to second and third, thus killing the chances of a double play. With the count 0-2, Jenkins drove in the deciding run and the game was history.
The win makes Seymour’s District 2-AAA record 7-2which keeps the Eagles in the race for the district championship.
Seymour followed this big win by defeating William-Blount 12-3 giving them another all important District 2-AAA win.
Corbin Weaver got the nod to start the game for the Eagles on the mound. He lasted 4 innings with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Logan Sawyer finished the game and got credit for the win going 3 innings and allowed only one run.
Seymour’s bats were hot as they pounded 12 hits. They were led by senior Cody Fox who was 3 for 4 including a 3 run homer. Ben Whisler batted.500 going 2-4.
