I’ve written several times about how great the Seymour community, the people and businesses are, but I’ve never talked about how the community really has no center or focal point.
Those with kids say that everything revolves around the schools. Yet, those without kids, don’t even know where the schools are unless they are unfortunate enough to have to travel on Boyds Creek during school hours.
Senior citizens tell me it revolves around the drug stores and doctor offices.
And still others think that the churches are absolutely the center.
Seymour has some of the most beautiful properties in the world, that’s a given.
There has been a growth trend for years. Developers tell me that Sevier County, specifically Seymour, is the fastest growing area in the entire state. Not sure about the validity of that, but anyone will attest to the fact we are growing.
Even with the tougher times the country is experiencing, there is still growth all over in Seymour as well as the rest of the county.
Many have welcomed the growth while others not so much.
One thing for certain – the only thing constant is change. And since we have growth and change, it is a good idea to have some control.
Many have voiced their opinions only to fall on apparent deaf commissioner’s ears.
Seymourians have called; meet with them and even threatened lawsuits.
The president of a local group with issues against local commissioners told me that talking with them does no good because they just tell you want you can to hear, but do nothing. “They just lull you to sleep and hope that in time you will just go away,” he said.
Other local citizens have become so fed up that they actually filed a lawsuit to correct the injustices brought by a complete disregard of the wishes of the local communities.
The people are tired of having their wishes, needs and desires disregarded which is evident by the number of candidates running to replace the incumbents.
They say that all politics is local and the local Seymourians are apparently tired of the status quo office holders.
What I’m hearing is that Seymourians are not going to have another four years of the same – old same old.
In other words, Seymourians want to take their community back by, in essence, hiring those that do the will of the people.
They want center lanes, they want school traffic resolved, they want community parks where it makes sense, they want proper garbage handling.
Seymourians just want the basics and whatever else they desire.
If you don’t believe me – ask your neighbors – you’ll see they too want proper representative.

They pay for taxes and they want their money’s worth. They want their community the way they want it.
