Several Seymour business owners attended the first meeting of a newly reformed association on Tuesday.
Ten business owners attended the tentatively named Seymour Business Association, or Seymour Business Group, at Connie’s Kitchen to discuss the group’s future plans.
“Everybody is excited about it,” said Joe Karl, the group’s tentative president.  “We all want to work together to increase the awareness of Seymour.”
Other members include Salon 101 owner Veronica Sharp, named tentative Secretary and Treasurer, and her mother Al Baker, who is tentatively named vice president.
One of the first goals of the group is to survey Seymour businesses to see what owners would like out of the organization.
“It would make sense to see what businesses owners would like to see out of an organization,” stated Dean Hempel of Financial Professionals.
“We’re looking for a lot of businesses, we’re trying to create Seymour loyalty,” Karl said.
Hempel added that one of the benefits of the association would be the ability for business owners to confidently recommend other businesses in the area to their customers rather than having to send them to an outside source.
“Almost everything is available in Seymour,” Karl said. “It is just not promoted as well as some big chain store.
“We want to convince people to shop right here at home.”
Meetings will be held at noon every Tuesday at Connie’s kitchen until the group outgrows the space.
“We expect this to go up to 30 or 40 people for lunch very quickly because there are hundreds of businesses here in Seymour,” Karl said.
