Sevierville Police Department (SPD) detectives are investigating an incident that reportedly occurred on Sunday afternoon, February 28 at a Shaconage Trail residence.
According to SPD Officer Jason Ballard, two residents at the home reported that they heard a loud noise and saw the kitchen window break just before 1 p.m. and discovered a bullet lying on the floor near the damaged window. The residents said they did not see anyone in the vicinity of their home.
Based upon evidence gathered so far, police do not feel this was an attempt to harm anyone, but rather that a person likely was shooting nearby in an unsafe manner.
The SPD would like to take this opportunity to remind residents that they should be cognizant of their surroundings before shooting a firearm; bullets can sometimes travel extreme distances and endanger persons and structures well beyond the sight of the shooter.
Discharging firearms is prohibited in and near residential areas and other inhabited places; before using a firearm, always check with your local law enforcement agency to ensure you are in compliance with applicable laws. City, County and State governments all place restrictions on the discharge of firearms.
SPD Detective Kevin Bush is investigating the incident. Police are requesting that anyone with information about this incident contact Detective Bush at (865) 453-5506.
