East Tennessee ElderWatch is sponsoring a conference, “Journey to Justice, Confronting Elder Abuse in the Real World,” on April 22, at the Knoxville Airport Hilton in Alcoa.
This professional seminar will provide a realistic view of investigation and prosecution of elder abuse cases and alternative community resources.
Don Dare, WATE-TV investigative reporter, will be the moderator for this one-day event. Presenters will include Jennifer Millsaps, TBI Forensic Scientist; Jim Milam, Assistant District Attorney, Davidson County; Del Holley, Assistant District Attorney, Knox County; and Monica Franklin, certified elder law attorney.
The day will end with a panel of experts providing information on available services for cases outside the realm of prosecution.
Professionals who work with the elderly are encouraged to attend, including direct caregivers, law enforcement, health care facilities staff, social workers, medical personnel, and attorneys.
Additional information is available at the Web site www.elderwatchetn.org under “Journey to Justice”. Registration deadline is April 5, with early bird rates until March 1.
East Tennessee ElderWatch has been promoting prevention efforts in neglect, abuse and exploitation of the elderly for over 16 years.
This East Tennessee group has promoted several community workshops, assisted in the formation of county ElderWatch coalitions in this region, and is partnered with the statewide Tennessee Vulnerable Adult Coalition (TVAC).
