The number one item that needs to be addressed is the economy and America’s reliance on fiat currency. That is the essential concern, according to Gary Samples who addressed the Sevier County Republican Party during the regular monthly meeting last Tuesday night in the Sevier County Courthouse.
Samples continued to outline fifteen other topics of concern which he attributed to the Articles of Freedom, elements from the 2009 Continental Congress. He identified himself as an alternative delegate from Tennessee. Attendees developed the 61-page Articles of Freedom document which will be presented to various state and federal elected and appointed officials on April 19, 2010.
Sonny Coane, vice-chairman of the Sevier County Republicans chaired the meeting. He said, “We were very surprised to hear Mr. Samples is an active, independent candidate for Congress in the 2nd District.”
Other events during the meeting included the progress report on the annual Lincoln Day Dinner, scheduled for March 25, 2010 at the MainStay Suites, 410 Pine Mountain Road in Pigeon Forge. Tickets for that event will be $60 per person, or $600 for a table of ten.
Coane also mentioned the possibility of setting up an online discussion site and is seeking input from all members regarding the need and desire for such a site.
Membership approved a motion to establish a permanent telephone number for the Party. It will provide a centralized point of contact for Republicans of Sevier County and a means to reach Party officials.
Mel Canterbury reported for the Strategic Planning Committee. He cited that committee’s efforts to develop short-term and long-term goals for the Sevier County Republican Party. Canterbury solicited input on those goals, objective and strategies from the membership. Input can be sent to the Party’s email address, seviercountygop@gmail.com.
The next Sevier County Republican Party meeting will be held on March 16, 2010 in the County Commission Chambers, third floor, Sevier County Courthouse at 6:00 p.m. Sevier County Republicans and those interested in the Party are invited to attend.
