Michele and I had the pleasure of attending the amazing “Appreciation Luncheon” sponsored by C.R.O.S.S. Ministries Tuesday and met with Dottie, the newly elected president.
Just meeting her you could tell she was a potential dynamo of energy. But when she took the microphone, there was no doubt about her energy and the future of C.R.O.S.S.
She not only talks the talk, but appears to walk the walk.
To get leaders of churches with a small congregation to those with members over 1700 to take time out of their busy schedule demonstrates Dottie’s ability to get things done.
Getting things done is vital for all of us as well as for businesses and government leaders.
Sometimes it’s just time to bring in new blood to either get the train moving again or to get back on track.
And maybe one just needs to take a short or extended break from whatever it is they’re doing.
We’ve all heard the expression “burned out”.
That happens to all of us at one time or another. Those that realize their condition are fortunate. Those that don’t hopefully aren’t in leadership positions as they are performing an injustice to their constituents, businesses or organizations.
Some find their second wind, while others drift aimless along on autopilot accomplishing nothing at all or only what hopefully will pass scrutiny.
Those that are burned out should look at taking vacation to recharge their batteries.
Another point of interest I garnered from the luncheon is that new blood brings new perspective.
Dottie said that C.R.O.S.S. has been providing food for the body but not for the soul.
“People have come faithfully every other week to get food, but they somehow neglect to make it to church. Maybe we should require some sort of church attendance to also feed the soul.”
That reminded me of an email I received just the other day; Since I have to take a drug test to earn the money to feed people, in order for them to receive the free food stamps, why don’t we make those that eat the food I work for also take a drug test.
Such a simple and appropriate concept, why isn’t it implemented?
Once a great man said, it is better to teach a man to fish rather than to feed him.
Makes sense.
For those that are physically and mentally able, why shouldn’t they learn how to fish.
Please don’t tell me there’s no jobs out there. I know too many managers and business owners that would hire anyone on the spot today that has a good work ethic and a good attitude.
I also know several people that refuse to work at certain jobs or for less than they were making years ago.
Tough times, call for tough choices.
Some people need help to get going. They don’t need an enabler.
So let’s get out there and help people fish. They’ll feel much better about themselves and be more productive to their families and society.
Thank goodness for Dottie’s new blood, new ideas, and a solid direction, which greatly enhances the Seymour Community which makes us all look that much better.
