The Chairman of the Sevier County Republican Party has announced two staff positions have been filled in the face of a challenging year of Party activity within Sevier County and across the nation. Ashley Johnson, a Sevierville attorney and Chairman of the Republican Party in Sevier County revealed that Mel Canterbury was designated the Program Director for the County GOP and Allen Bray was appointed the Director of Public Relations and Communications.
Mel Canterbury is a business man who serves the irrigation and water industry around the world. He has served his industry as Chairman of the Irrigation Association Education Foundation for 4 years and director for 3 more. He also served as Director of the Irrigation Association, President and other offices of the Y’s Men’s Club, and is a former member of the New Port Richey, FL Republican Club. He served on many other committees and organizations always with a conservative point of view. His focus has been on rebuilding businesses or starting them from scratch. He and his wife, Anne, live in Seymour.
Allen Bray and his wife, Nyla, reside near Gatlinburg. He is a 30-year veteran broadcast and print communications specialist in the U.S. Navy and private sector radio operations in the Providence, RI and Memphis markets. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Memphis and a Master’s of Education from Lincoln Memorial University.
In making the announcement, Johnson said, “These are two skilled, enthusiasticprofessionals. We believe they will make significant contributions to the revitalization of the Republican Party in Sevier County at a time when we need to present a coherent and competent image to enhance the majority of Republicans in the Tennessee State Legislature.”
