Last Saturday, the Seymour Eagles wrestling team finished third out of twenty one teams behind only Whitley County (206.5) and Maryville (192.5).
The Eagles at one point after the second round led the entire tournament and even finishing third was only 25 behind first with a total of 179.5.
Two Eagle wrestlers received individual awards.  Luke Hall (119 lbs) received the ‘Outstanding Wrestler Award’ and Trent Williams (130 lbs) received the ‘Best Match Award’ along with Michael Bishop of Sullivan East.
Luke Hall (119 lbs) was the only Eagle who won his match.  Trent Williams (130 lbs) got a second along with Michael Raimondi (135 lbs).  Shane Chipley (160 lbs) got a third place.
Coach Alex Cate had this to say, “We had a really successful day.
“Luke Hall wrestled great and if he continues to wrestle great like he did this weekend he will live up to his state ranking which is first according to ‘Teamwrestling.com’.
Michael Raimondi (135 lbs) was seeding forth in the tournament and knocked off the number one seed Ryan Farinella of Farragut, before falling to Nathan Molina of Heritage in the finals.  The 135 lb was the toughest weight class at the tournament.  Trent Williams looked strong and led the first two periods of his final match before giving up a takedown in the third period.”
Next up for the Eagle Mat Men is Halls at Seymour, January 19th at 6:30 p.m.
