Seymour Primary School has purchased new playground equipment.
The equipment will be installed in the first and second grade playgrounds and a wooden structure will be replaced on the first grade playground.
Being replaced is a wooden climbing structure that has some areas students can’t play on, has been repaired several times and splinters have also become a concern with the equipment.
“The structure is getting older and it is something we like to check on for safety and what we try to do is get rid of anything long before it becomes a safety hazard,” said Seymour Primary School Principal Jan Moore. “It is not a safety hazard, but it could stand to be replaced.”
A “caterpillar type” structure that accommodates roughly 15 children and that will “wiggle and weave” when students climb on it will be installed in both playgrounds, said Moore.
“It is not your average old swing set,” she added. “It is something that is new out there right now.”
Because of the weather it is uncertain when the equipment can be installed, but Moore said the installation will likely take place in early spring when the weather is warmer.
The equipment was purchased from Miracle Recreation of KY & TN at a cost of $11,000.
