The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra opens its News Sentinel Pops Series with music from the legendary decade of the 1970’s. Award-winning artist Jim Witter takes to the keyboard and microphone to perform the music of Billy Joel and Elton John with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, January 9 at the Civic Auditorium. The concert begins at 8:00 PM and is sponsored by Regions Bank.
Utilizing rear screen projections, audience members return to the newspaper headlines, the automobiles, the people, the events, the toys and even the television commercials that shaped the 70’s while Witter and the KSO perform “Your Song,” “Just The Way You Are,” “Crocodile Rock,” “Only The Good Die Young,” “Candle In The Wind,” “Movin’ Out” and more.
Jim Witter has been entertaining for over 20 years! Whether it be his country music, contemporary Christian, or the music of Billy Joel and Elton John, his versatility as an artist has allowed him the opportunity to reach out and share his music and his infectious
personality with audiences of all ages across Canada and the United States. Witter’s music and songwriting have been recognized on both sides of the border, earning him multiple awards and nominations from the Canadian Country Music Association, the Juno Awards, and most recently the Dove Awards in Nashville, where Jim’s album “Forgiveness” was nominated for Inspirational Album Of The Year.

The KSO has contributed to the cultural life in East Tennessee since 1935. Under the leadership of Lucas Richman, the orchestra consists of more than 80 professional musicians and performs more than 200 programs throughout East Tennessee each season. Performing in traditional venues such as the Tennessee Theatre, Bijou Theatre and the Civic Auditorium, and in non-traditional places like hospitals, school classrooms, shopping centers and city parks, the KSO reaches more than 200,000 people throughout the region each year.
