The Seymour High School Band’s nonprofit organization “Just Givin’ a Little Back” will hold its next fundraiser this weekend.
When customers come into Z Mex Grille in the Kroger Shopping Center from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 5, Z Mex will donate 10 percent of the customer’s purchase to the organization if they say the phrase, “Just giving a little back,” at the checkout.
The year-old organization, which is run through the high school band, raises funds to help Seymour families that are in need during the holiday season.
During their first year last holiday season the organization raised $1,500 and helped four families. This year “Just Givin’ a Little Back” hopes to raise $5,000.
“We try to help families in the range of about $500, give or take, depending on what the families’ needs are,” said band parent Tom Fitzharris.
The organization is still accepting families and as families contact “Just Givin’ a Little Back,” the governing board of the high school marching band will evaluate the families’ situations and determine which families to choose on a “most needed basis”, added Fitzharris.
The organization holds several fundraisers to raise as much money as possible to be able to help more families. This year they have held a pancake dinner at Connie’s Kitchen, which is also an official drop spot if residents want to drop off cash, non perishable items or clothing for the organization.
Members of the color guard will also be holding a bake sale in the high school cafeteria for students in the next few weeks.
“We are trying to get the whole community and the student body behind (the organization) as well,” Fitzharris said. “It is a good program.
“What we ask the kids in the band to do is to ask 10 of their friends to give $1, with roughly 100 kids in the band that is almost $1,000 right there.
“It is all about the power of multiplication and every little bit helps.”
“Just Givin’ a Little Back” is a registered 501 c3 organization with all of its proceeds going directly to the families in need in Seymour and all donations are tax deductible.
“One of our tag lines is with the power of many we can significantly change lives,” said Fitzharris.
Any family that would like to apply for the program, or anyone who would like to suggest a family for the program can contact the organization on Facebook under the group name “Just Givin’ a Little Back”, or call Fitzharris at (865) 919-6507 or email him at LTFITZ5@ATT.net.
