Friday is the first day petitions can be picked up for the Sevier County Democratic and Republican Primaries and the Sevier County Nonpartisan School Board Election.
The Sevier County Election Commission will open and hold the Democratic and Republican Primaries and Nonpartisan School Board Election for Sevier County in all precincts on May 4, 2010.
Offices up for election in the primaries are County Mayor, County Commission-1st District (Seat A, Seat B), County Commission-2nd District (Seat A, Seat B), County Commission-3rd District (Seat A, Seat B), County Commission-4th District (Seat A, Seat B, Seat C), County Commission-5th District (Seat A, Seat B, Seat C), County Commission-6th District (Seat A, Seat B), County Commission-7th District (Seat A, Seat B), County Commission-8th District (Seat A, Seat B, Seat C), County Commission -9th District (Seat A, Seat B), County Commission-10th District (Seat A, Seat B), and County Commission-11th District (Seat A, Seat B).
Also up for election are Trustee, Sheriff, Circuit Court Clerk, General Sessions Court Clerk, County Clerk, Register and Road Superintendent.
The Constables in the First through Fifth Districts, with Seat A and Seat B available in each are also up for election.
The addition of seats A, B, and C in the different districts were recently approved by the County Commission.
“Now when someone picks up a petition for the district they have to tell if they want to run in Seat A, Seat B, or Seat C,” said Administrator of Elections Ronee Flynn.
“It is just a different method of electing the County Officials because you do actually have to qualify for a particular seat.”
She added that there is no different between seats and each one is still at large throughout the county.
In the Nonpartisan Election the First, Third and Fifth Educational District seats on the School Board are up for election.
The qualifying deadline for the May 4, 2010, Democratic and Republican primaries and the Nonpartisan School Board Election is Feb. 18, 2010 at noon.
The Election Commission office is located in the Sevier County Courthouse in Room 208-E. The office hours are 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The office telephone number is (865) 453-6985.
