Brandon Daughtry Slocum is the Founding Artistic Director of The Wild Thyme Players, a classical theatre training company in Knoxville, Tennessee. After beginning an education/outreach program at the John T. O'Connor Senior Center in 2007, Slocum founded a second company for senior artists, The Silver Stage Players. Silver Stage has produced four original plays with a fifth currently in rehearsals. Three of these original plays were written by Slocum, and two have been written by senior playwriting apprentice, Jeanette Stevens. The two companies collaboratively produced Sophocles' ANTIGONE last winter. The Silver Stage Players represented Knoxville at the Senior Theatre USA Performance Festival in Baltimore in 2008, and will do so again in Asheville in 2010. Slocum recently established another program for seniors interested in theatre, The O'Connor Drama Group, which includes a lecture series on topics such as Greek, Roman and Medieval Theatre History and Shakespeare. The group reads plays and attends local theatre productions as a study group. Slocum was recently commissioned through a Rural Arts Project Support grant from TN Arts Commission to write an original drama for Historic Rugby, TN.
