Why do people say “You can’t have your cake and eat it too.”?  Why can’t I eat my cake? You said it was mine but I can’t eat it? I don’t understand. This is got to be one of the most asinine analogies that I have heard. First off, why would you give someone cake and then tell them they can’t eat it, that’s just mean spirited.
Can you imagine the reaction if you were to say that to a 5 year old girl on her birthday. Happy birthday dear, here’s your pretty pink cake, but you can’t eat any of it, just look at how pretty it is. And be happy that you have such a pretty cake to look at, but don’t ever eat it.
You would have one upset crying 5 year old on your hands for sure.
This statement often refers to something that you’re doing in your life that others disagree with or don’t approve of. It is a very judgmental statement in my opinion. And often translates to “What, you want to be true to yourself, and enjoy your life?”  Wow, you’re right, it’s so wrong of me to want to lead a happy and fulfilling life. Thank you for setting me strait.
Give me a break.
Where do we as individuals get off telling other people how they should lead their lives? Doesn’t it say “Judge Not” in the Bible? Why then is there so much judgment within our society, a society which has “In God We Trust” on our money. Maybe if we all trusted in God more we could have a judgment free society.
Yeah right.
There are more hypocrites than true Christians running around our great country. I know a few true Christians; they are wonderful, caring, nonjudgmental people. They accept others for who they are whether they agree with the others lifestyle or not. They trust in God, read and understand what the Bible says. They personify “love thy neighbor”.  If more people lived by the teachings of Jesus in the Bible our country would be a much better place.
Everyone does have their own interpretation on the Bible. But how on Gods green earth can someone not understand the praise “judge not, least ye be judged.” and “love thy neighbor” intentions behind them? It seems pretty strait forward to me. Have you read the Bible lately?
What would Jesus do? A famous praise people made millions on, but it really does say something about our society. We bought the bracelets, the t-shirts, the bumper stickers. But did that phrase really make people think? Did all that revenue it generated make our society any better?
What would Jesus do?
Well for starters I don’t think he would have sold anything that said that. He would have given it away to spread the word. For him it would not have been about profit, it would have been him helping his fellow man.
I don’t think he would ever sit on his high horse either and look down on others the way many people do these days. He would treat the homeless with as much respect and dignity as he would the President.
He would not judge people based on their financial position or material possessions. No, he would not judge them at all, that’s a huge lesson the Bible attempts to teach us.
But for a Nation of God fearing citizens, to him we must seem like a bunch of rebellious children.  “I told them not to judge others right there in the Bible, why won’t they listen?” We can’t even learn that one simple lesson from the teachings in the Bible. Think about this people.
We all have the right to our own opinions, and we all have the right to choose how we lead our lives. But please as a nation we all need to heed the basic teaching of the Bible like “judge not” to better our country.
