On Monday, the Seymour Eagle’s golf team got an up close sample of just how good the Patriot’s golf team is – boys and girls.
The match took place at Creekside Golf Course in Seymour.  It wasn’t enough that the Eagles were just defeated soundly.  What made it worse was the fact that it occurred on Seymour’s home course.  It wasn’t a good day for the Seymour golf team which has a proud history and rich golf tradition.  The only consolation was the fact that the Eagles ran into one of the strongest boys and girls high school golf programs in the state.  If you’re going to play bad then play bad against a team which you have no chance of beating anyway.
Two high school course records were almost tied. On the boy’s side, Drew Jenkins shot a 32 – one shot short of tying the course record of 31 set by Andrew Ramsey and Willie Sexton.
On the girl’s side, the other record was almost tied by Kendall Martindale when she shot a 32 also one shot short of Jennifer Davis’ 31 shot in 2004.
Both play for the Jefferson County Patriots.
The Seymour boys lost to Jefferson County 137 to 182.  The 137 was two shots short of the team state record set by the Eagles in 2006 at Creekside Golf Course. The Eagles scores were as follows: Justice Murphy 43, Michael Bennett 44, Phillip Arlinghus 46 and Parker Rudder 49.
The boy’s medalist was Drew Jenkins with a 32.
The Seymour girls lost 69 to 94.  The Lady Eagles scores were as follows: Kristen Baldridge 46 and Bailey Webb 48.
The girl’s medalist was Kendall Martindale with a 32.
The Patriots are led by two super stars Jordan Jennings and Kendall Martindale.
Jordan Jennings is a senior who has committed to the Middle Tennessee State University golf team.  “I committed to MTSU about a week ago.  I’m very excited about it.” Asked about his goal for this year, Jennings responded “I want to win a state championship in high school golf.”  Jennings has already won the Tennessee State Junior Amateur Championship this past summer shooting a 73, 71, and 70 at Champions Run Golf Course in middle Tennessee.
The other player is Kendall Martindale.  She is being highly recruited by several schools – Vanderbilt, Alabama, Auburn, North Carolina, and Tennessee.  When asked about UT, Martindale responded, “Tennessee is cool but it’s a little close to home.”
Vanderbilt and Alabama are leading at the time according to Martindale.  Her biggest accomplishment was winning the Tennessee Women’s State Amateur Championship this past summer.  She was playing against adults – not juniors.  Martindale also finished high in several AJGA national tournaments this past summer.
