They say all good things must come to an end; that goes for summer vacation too.
Students, teachers, principals and staff personnel all can see the light at the end of the tunnel, or is that a train? Either way, depending on how you look at it, school is about to begin in Sevier County.
Monday, August 17th will be the first day of classes for all Sevier County schools.
As is every year, the stores will be crowded this weekend with last minute back to school shoppers. They will be purchasing clothes, book bags, pencils, pens, crayons, note pads and boxes of Kleenex.
The beach trips, pool parties, sleepovers and camping trips soon will only be a distant memory.
“We are very excited about the upcoming school year” said Faye Nelson, Principal of Seymour Middle School. “The classes are ready and so are the teachers. They have been working very hard to get ready.”
Seymour Middle will have 750 students this year. Besides the usually familiar faces, there will be three new teachers this year – Mark Whistler, Ashley Arnold and Teresa Roberts.
The 6th grade will have orientation on Thursday, August 13th from 6 – 7:30 p.m. The 7th and 8th grade will have open house on Tuesday, August 25th from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the Middle School.
Across the road, Greg Clark, Principal of Seymour High School sounds equally as enthused. “I am excited about the new school year. I’m sure it will be another success as always. The teachers have been working very hard to ensure that fact. We will have 1,250 students this year. Everyone seems to be ready.”

Either way or somewhere in between, the first day of school is always a change from the sweet days of summer.
