The Smoky Mountain Palace Theater in Sevierville, Tennessee (formerly Governor’s Palace Theatre) has been designated as the United States office of the Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circle (SFLAC).  The designation was made in support of SFLAC’s mission to showcase the arts of Chinese culture in America.
The unveiling will be on Saturday, August 8, at 5:30 P.M. followed by a presentation of the Cirque de Chine show and an opportunity to meet the performers and guest artist. Dignitaries from China as well as the Chinese media will be present. News of the event will be broadcast nationally on Chinese television.
Each year, the Shanghai Artists’ Performance and Exhibition Week event will introduce to America the work of some of Shanghai’s finest artists and performers.  This year’s is August 8-13.  Performances during the six-day exhibition include:
Hao Hao Gu; internationally recognized as the “Queen of Kun Opera”
Ji Wan; a master of the Erhu, a centuries-old traditional two-stringed Chinese fiddle
Chen Yun Hu; a skillful performer of the So-na, a Chinese clarinet
Jiafang Wang; a renowned landscape painter who will also illustrate Chinese calligraphy
Jung Jo Drummers; 15 female precision percussionists with rhythm and style…Who participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics
Cast of Cirque de Chine; the theater’s own resident award winning masters of acrobatics, contortion, and the age-old performance of mask change.
The performers will share the stage each evening at 7:30PM.
All the exhibitions in the lobby, prior to the evening event, are free to the public.  Each evening, at 6:30 people can enjoy watching live performances in the lobby by acrobats and demonstrations of Chinese painting and calligraphy by landscape painter, Jiafang Wang.  A photo exhibit, titled “Shanghai Today” is also open to the public from 9:00AM to 9:00PM.
