It’s not necessary to mention that times are tough.
The resulting effects are what are bothering the officials in our county as well as the nation.
What am I talking about? Im talking about the theft.
Needless to say you're probably are aware of the recent thefts on Chapman Highway.
The surprising one was the professional jewelry story burglary. Then three restaurant burglaries on the same night and most recently the Seymour Herald newspaper boxes.
You might have seen WBIR TV’s Allison Morrow interview with me Tuesday regarding the stolen newspaper boxes.
The reason it was newsworthy is because of the length someone will go to either steal a few dollars or to make a point of how upset they might be with the paper, it’s content or me.
Someone might be trying to squelch freedom of speech.
What would you think if someone took away your ability to speak?
Basically that’s what they are trying to do by stealing the boxes possible due to some sort of retaliation? I say retaliation because only the Seymour Herald newspaper boxes with stolen sitting right next to the Sentinel and others.
The thief(s) are trying to steal not only my voice, but yours as well.
Think about all the sport events and pictures we print? The community events, the new businesses, new restaurants, the local columns and news articles not found anywhere else?
There is so much more that the Seymour Herald offers that it’s part of the thread that makes up the community.
Possibly and most importantly, it’s your voice through your events and letters to the editor. The voice of the community. It’s the recorded history.
Countless parents and grandparents have the priceless possessions of pictures and articles of their children/grandchildren that they cut out of the Herald to cherish forever.
So if you have and idea of who is trying to squelch your voice, give me or the Sheriff’s office a call and you could end up with $500 for the arrest and conviction of the culprit(s).
