A Seymour man was arrested after he was reportedly lost and intoxicated trying to find his home, but lost his way in Madisonville before nearly striking a city officer head-on.
According to Madisonville Police Sgt. Jeremy Harrill, his officers were notified of a suspected drunk driver in a Chevy Silverado inside the city limits. Officer Chris Wilburn said a truck matching the description almost struck his car head-on at the Warren and College Streets intersection and he attempted to stop the driver.
The driver finally stopped a few blocks away on Monroe Street near Pine Street.
Monroe County Sheriff's Captain John Wilburn, Sgt. Darian Goodman as well as Madisonville Sgt. Harrill and Officer Craig Summey and other officers arrived to assist.
The driver was identified as James Pierce Darden, 46, of Seymour.
Officials said they took Darden into custody because he appeared to be under the influence of some sort of intoxicant.
Officers said the Chevrolet was registered to his father and he was driving on Emergency plates. Darden said his father works for the Department of Defense and that is why he had the emergency tags.
During the inventory of the vehicle, officers found what was believed to be marijuana and a prescription bottle without a label containing one white pill and three white half pills.
Sgt. Harrill said he would need to consult the district attorney before charging Darden with the drugs.
Harrill charged Darden with DUI, violation of the implied consent law and driving on a revoked license.
