As I talk with people in our community their comments have switched from the need for a good restaurant to ‘have you tried the food from so and so.’
Restaurateurs have heard the cries of our people as we now have so many choices.
In our little unincorporated community there exist over 25 eateries within a mile’s drive from the center of Chapman Highway and Hwy 411.
During my recent memory there have been a number of new and different restaurants that have made their dishes and services available. Everything from drive thru to sit-down establishments.
A unique Mexican type establishment opened up next door to a national pizza chain which is next door to a sit-down Japanese Steak House
In the past 30 days another national pizza chain opened next door to deli which also in the last 60 days.
Also within 30 days, a local landmark pizza business has been purchased by an investor.
Even a location which has housed one failure after another has been remodeled by a local builder who decided that cooking might be more profitable than construction.  We shall see.
At a time of economic difficulty and changing consumer tastes it’s been noted that people seem to eat out more often, but only in certain type of venues.
Some of the specials offered by the restaurants, it’s understandable that families would rather eat out than cook at home.
In many cases it’s cheaper plus you don’t have to do the dishes.
We eat out more often than I care to only because it’s more convenient for us, as it is for countless others.
A good home-cooked meal is hard to beat.  However, several restaurants have noted that and are offering the type of meals you usually only find at the kitchen stove.
We gravitate toward spots that offer the obvious, good food. But we also look for warmth and a sense of human connection in a good waiter/waitress.
I’ve always wondered how some waiter/waitress, when their income depends on their personality, seem to do everything possible to stifle their earnings.
Some of the new restaurants are apparently attempting to create communal tables that generate enormous enthusiasm to keep their customers coming back.
Then there are the regulars that are at the door every morning to discuss the world’s problems over their morning muffin and coffee.
The bottom line to us however, is the quality and quantity of food, service at a value, in that order.
You should check them all out.
Good appetite.
