Walters State Community College’s Office of Continuing Education plans several new courses this summer at the Sevier County Campus. The courses train individuals for careers as registered dental assistants, certified nursing assistants, EKG technicians and phlebotomy technicians.
The registered dental assistant course begins July 21, with courses meeting Tuesday and Thursday evenings through Dec. 8. Graduates can apply to the Tennessee Board of Dentistry to become a registered dental assistant with the State of Tennessee. The fee is $499 and approximately $175 for books.
The CNA course meets Monday and Wednesday evenings July 20-Oct. 21.  After completion of this course, students may take the state licensure exam. The class is $499, which includes liability insurance and all textbooks. The state test fee is an additional $88.
The EKG technician certification course meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings July 21-Sept. 8. This prepares students to operate electrocardiography equipment. Students may take the EKG technician exam. The course fee is $999, including the textbook.
The phlebotomy technician course meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Aug. 18-Nov. 17. This course covers the collection of blood specimens for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Students are prepared to serve as entry-level phlebotomy technicians.
