This was a season of firsts for the Eagles bowling team. This year the SHS boys team claimed its first ever regional title and made its first appearance in the state tournament.
And they didn't just make it to the tournament, either; they pulled off the upset win over Hendersonville to advance to the quarterfinals.
"When we beat Hendersonville nobody expected us to win. It was the first time we'd ever been (to state), so nobody expected us to be good," Coach Charlie Ogle said.
In the first round of the state tournament, the Eagles faced Hendersonville, one of the powerhouses of high school bowling. Hendersonville has consistently been a competitor for the state title, making an appearance in every state tournament in the history of TSSAA bowling. However, the Eagles weren't about to lie down. After finding themselves behind early in the match, SHS battled back to turn out their best performance of the season with a final pin fall of 3,587 to 3,389.
