Witnesses to a vehicle fire in the parking lot of Walgreen’s in Seymour Sunday said responding units from the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department “took forever” to extinguish the blaze.
According to witnesses, the car began smoldering while parked between two cars in the pharmacy’s lot at around 6 p.m. Sunday. The cause of the fire has been attributed to a malfunction in the vehicle’s electric wiring.
Matt Dust, an eye witness said, “A support truck was here then a while later a fire truck went by three times before they finally found the fire.”
Ted Esch, chairman of the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department responded in a telephone interview saying, “If anyone is going to tell me that one of our fire trucks went by a burning, smoking car three times is lying. All I will say is that I don’t have enough information to make any statement at this time.”
Another eye witness, Heather Bryant said, “It’s typical of the SVFD, it took them forever to get water on the fire.”
Several of the witnesses said they were surprised no one came to move the SUV. One of the cars parked next to the burning vehicle was moved. A Kia SUV parked on the other side remained in the spot next to the Cadillac throughout the fire.
Responding authorities said no injuries, damage to Walgreens’ property or the surrounding vehicles was sustained during the fire.
While at the scene, one of the SVFD’s trucks which had extinguished the fire had the hood of the truck open. Officials from the SVFD have not commented as to the nature of the situation.
The Sevier County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the incident.
