The Smokies fell to the Carolina Mudcats 7-5 in a close match up as 6,420 fans – many of which were Sevier County students – turned out for the midday game.
Joseph Coleman was the starting pitcher for Tennessee. He threw five innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits, giving up one homerun and striking out three batters.
Jeremy Papelbon and Richard Parker each pitched two innings, giving up one and two runs respectively.
The Mudcats drew first blood, scoring Juan Francisco on a Todd Frazier RBI single. Carolina tallied another in the second before Tennessee got in on the action in the bottom of the inning.
