With the warm weather upon us, it's time for the Knoxville Zoo's tortoises, Big Al and Tex, to make their annual trek to their outdoor exhibit. The trek will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday April 28, and much fanfare will surround the event.

Visitors will watch the tortoises make their way from the indoor housing where they reside during the cold months to their outdoor enclosure.

Big Al, a 600 pound, 120-plus-year-old Aldabra tortoise, is the reigning champion of the race, but Tex, a "spring chicken" at just a little over 80 years old and 350 pounds, will look to give him a run for his money.

Three Aldabra juveniles who also reside at the zoo will also be on exhibit for the festivities.
