Walter State’s Sevier County Campus will be offering several new classes in April.
These include driver¹s education, songwriting and armed/unarmed security guard training.
Real estate agents will also be able to earn CEUs through a “Back to Basics: List to Last” offered from 6 to 9 p.m. April 6. The class is $30 and is approved by the Tennessee Real Estate Commission.
Driver¹s education is a 30-hour course using a curriculum developed by AAA. The class includes four hours of classroom training followed by one-on-one training in a driver¹s education car. Students must have their learner¹s permit and a minimum of 10 hours driving time before the class. Driving times will be arranged during the orientation session. Orientation will be from 9 a.m.to1 p.m. Saturday, April 4. The fee is $450, including all course materials.
The armed/unarmed security guard course prepares individuals to be licensed by the state as armed or unarmed security guards. The unarmed guard class is offered in one day. The armed guard class lasts two days and includes weapons certification at the firing range. Students must be 21, U.S. citizens and free of criminal convictions. The cost of the unarmed class is $165. It will be April 17. The armed class is $299 and will be April 30 and May 1.  
Songwriting 101 will meet 6 to 9 p.m. March 30 and April 6. Students can learn the
basics of songwriting with Rick Starkey, who has several publishing contacts. The cost of this class is $85 and students will need a three-ring binder, a dictionary, rhyming dictionary, thesaurus and pen or pencil. A follow-up class, Songwriting: Getting Down to Business, will meet 6 o 9 p.m. April 13. This class will cover how to copyright a song, make a demo recording, submit the song and more. The cost of the second class is $45.
