Have you noticed all the trash along our roadways lately? It’s time for some serious roadside spring cleaning.
Seymour’s spring “Roads and Rivers Day” cleanup will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 4.
Registration will be held in the parking lot of Seymour First Baptist Church located at 11621 Chapman Highway. Participants will receive road and street assignments and will be given orange safety vests, gloves, pickers, and litter bags.
After a harsh winter, Seymour’s streets and roadsides have accumulated an unusually large amount of trash and litter that mars the natural beauty of the area.
Seymour’s cleanup event is a part of a county-wide effort sponsored by Keep Sevier Beautiful and is also a part of the Great American Cleanup program.
Following several years of increasingly larger turnouts at these events, sadly the number of participants last fall was minimal. A good response April 4 will reverse this and go a long way toward helping keep Seymour a beautiful community.
Scout groups, 4-H clubs, church children and youth groups (all with proper adult supervision), families, and adults are encouraged to participate. For more information, call Sam Padgett at 573-6014 or Mary Lee and Gene Reed at 577-8090.
